This was my entry on CG Trader. We had to pick a race of aliens and create something for that faction. I choose the Polyguardians. I tried different approaches the UV's getting perfect even spaces with no distortion. The problem was that I did not have good control when painting the texture, Because the elements where curved in a cylindrical shape.
After Making the model into a Quarter piece and duplicating it I was able to texture a lot more surface area. Also making the UV shells square gave me some distortion, but made painting the normals in nDo2 much easier.
I used Maya, Photoshop, xNormal, and nDo2 for this project. I will continue to add detail later. This was a good experience. I would like to continue this even though the contest is over.
